island, going, going gone …

So much for ‘rising sea levels’. Once an island off Western Australia, now about to become part of the mainland, you can walk to it:

For the first time in about 5 years you can walk over to Wedge Island. This was taken yesterday and there was a mere 6m wide channel of ankle deep water to traverse. The way it’s going, there’ll be a sand bar in a few more days.

Remember, stay only on the beach on the island as walking on the bush on top of the island is not permitted. You’ll need some footwear too as there are plenty of sharp rocks to shred uncovered feet.
