exaggerating the cyclonic narrative …

Once again, reality overtakes the hype. Exaggerations are the name of the game for the media/BoM conglomerate. Wishful thinking perhaps, and nothing said about the billions the rain is worth to the rural sector: Where are the category 5 wind gust observations for Cyclone Marcia?

The BoM rates Marcia as a Cat 5 now – yet the strongest wind gusts I can find are 208kmh at Middle Percy Island at 4.30am. which indicates Cat 3.
ABC News24 is quoting wind gusts 300kmh – the Qld Premier is on news quoting 280kmh wind gusts. […]

Cyclone Lam (Cat4) had a wind gust at 170kmh at Cape Wessel, and 150kmh at Elcho Island, which is what you would expect from a Cat 2 or 3 cyclone. More wishful thinking, expecting stronger gusts?
